SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA , - November 30, 2006 - Power Analog Microelectronics (PAM), an IC developer of innovative Class-D digital audio amplifiers and LED display drivers, today launches its new family of LED drivers, the PAM2701, PAM2800, and PAM2801.

Ideally suited for use with lithium-ion systems, the PAM2701 maximizes power transfer by achieving very high efficiencies of up to 91%. The PAM2701, housed in a 4x4mm or 3x3mm QFN package, is optimized for high-volume four-LED backlight display applications, such as smart phone, PMP, digital still camera, and handheld devices.

The PAM2800 delivers 350mA, with a 5V input voltage allowing it to step-down as low as 3.5V. Packaged in a 5-pin SOT-23, it is designed specifically for the high brightness 1W LED torch/flash applications with 4 rechargeable AA cells, 3 Alkaline AA, or C cells. It maintains a constant LED current with efficiencies up to 95% when the input voltage is down as low as 3.5V.

The PAM2801 can drive both the high brightness 1W and 3W LEDs with a single D-size or 2 D-size cells. Its output current can reach as high as 1A, with only 95 mV in feedback voltage. When the input voltage goes down to 2.3V, the maximum efficiency can be higher than 85%. Housed in a 6-pin SOT-23, the PAM2801 allows inputs as low as 0.9V with a step-up capability of up to 3.6V. It is well suited for lighting applications, such as automotive interior lights, and security torch/flash applications typically found in industrial and commercial usage.

"Mainstream portable systems require feature-rich functions, longer battery life in a small footprint, all at a very low cost. The PAM27xx and PAM28xx series allow system designers to implement such cost-effective configurations for portable LCD panels and high current LED torch/flash applications", said Johnston Chen, President and CEO of PAM.
